Our Feet Treat was originally developed to sooth tired, screaming, pain-filled feet. But people soon began telling us that it was equally wonderful for their elbows, hands and even as a facial night cream. The base for our Feet Treat is organic, unrefined shea butter from a women’s cooperative in Africa. Women have traditionally been engaged in the backbreaking work of shea butter production, but have been paid almost nothing for their labor. Through the efforts of the United Nations, cooperatives have been formed and now those women are able to earn enough money to clothe, feed and send their children to school. Because we pay fair market value for their product we are helping them earn a respectable wage. Each time we purchase shea butter from the cooperative we are linking hands with sisters from another part of the world.
Why use unrefined, organic shea butter? Because refined shea has had the majority of its effective agents removed and its healing values significantly removed. Unrefined shea butter has been used to help heal burns, sores, scars, dermatitis, psoriasis and stretch marks. It contains vitamins A and E and cinnamic acid, a substance that protects the skin from harmful UV rays.
To compliment both the healing qualities of the unrefined shea butter and its aroma, we have added three essential oils to our Feet Treat. Lavender essential oil removes nervous tension, relieves pain, disinfects skin and enhances blood circulation. Tea Tree Oil is a natural agent to relieve acne, sunburn, athletes’ foot, insect bites, rashes, and other minor wounds and irritations. In Peppermint Oil, the presence of cilium antagonism aids in removing pain and the menthol gives the skin a cooling effect; peppermint nourishes dull skin and improves oily skin.
So … if your feet have been keeping a couple of preschoolers out of trouble all day, or if they’ve been out shopping, shopping, shopping … take a few minutes to give them a bit of the attention they are screaming for and massage them with some Little Blue River Intensive Healing Cream, put on some soft cotton socks, and finish your day in comfort!
As an added suggestion (We moms never quit telling you what to do, do we?): Snatch a few minutes from your busy schedule and rest your feet in a warm foot bath. Even better, add Epsom salts and a few drops of Lavender or Tea Tree or Peppermint Essential Oil (or all three) to that foot bath. Close your eyes and relax for fifteen minutes. Dry your feet with a fluffy cotton towel and then massage those tootsies with our Intensive Healing Cream. You are now ready for whatever comes your way.
