Lavender essential oil has been one of the most favored of essential oils from ancient times to the present day. It is one of only a few essential oils that can safely be applied directly to the skin. Most essential oils must be mixed with a carrier oil, such as sweet almond oil, and then applied to the skin. Claims abound heralding the wonders of lavender essential oil. We don’t presume to tell you that lavender essential oil will chase all your troubles away but people have insisted that essential lavender oil has solved some problems that might be common to all of us.
Essential lavender oil may relieve pain caused by rheumatism, arthritis and muscular aches and pains. It may be useful for all types of skin problems such as acne, oily skin, burns, sunburn, wounds, psoriasis, insect bites, stings and it also acts as an insect repellant. Lavender essential oil can have a soothing and calming effect on the nerves, relieving tension, depression, panic and nervous exhaustion in general. It can also be effective for headaches, migraines and insomnia. It’s said that if you lightly sprinkle lavender water on your pillow case just as you go to bed you will “soon have sweet slumber.”
Peppermint essential oil must be mixed with a carrier oil before being applied to the skin, otherwise it will cause irritation to the skin. Keep well away from the eyes. People use peppermint oil to relieve skin irritation and itchiness and also to reduce skin redness where inflammation is present. It may be used for dermatitis, acne, ringworm, and also to relieve itching sunburn and inflammation of the skin, while at the same time has a cooling action. The scent of peppermint essential oil is said to clear the head and perk up your brain cells. Hmmmmmmmmmm! Sounds good to me. Although most essential oils blend well with one another peppermint oil blends particularly well with lavender.
